I have to admit I bought this book mainly for the Alex Ross art. Every single page, almost, is something you could frame and hang over your desk. As for the story, once you figure out what's the main theme, it could have been told in fewer pages. It almost seeme like the whole four chapters are but an exposition for something that's coming up next.
I really hope the next volume delivers more of a real story (I am going to buy it nonetheless... for the art again, of course).
I don't want to give away any plot spoilers - but guess who it the one superhero who is *not* cought off-guard and brought to his knees (or worse) by the ex-villains/novo-heroes?

This is a great book. Very well written; and the art..... just awesome. Alex Ross at his best. After you finish it you will want to buy Justice vol.2. For all the fans of the Justice League and a must have for the fans of Alex Ross. The hardcover has good quality; maybe the quality of the pages could have been better. But anyway, 5 stars to it.

This artwork by Ross is great. He really humanizes the heros. The story involves most of the DC worlds villians all having the same nightmare... What if the Justice League failed in saving the world? The villians then unite to destroy the Justice League. Are the vilians acting on thier own free will or is there something more sinister at work? I cant wait for the next instalments. The artwork alone is enough to buy it.

Justice: Volume I is a good start to what seems to be an interesting story. The artwork is captivating and the writing is adequate enough to keep me looking forward to the conclusion. This story line is not contingent upon the current DC Universe continuity, so we have a lot of heroes in their Silver Age composition but set in modern times. The villains' interpretations are more eclectic.
I've heard some people compare the general cast of heroes and villains to that of the old cartoon Challenge of the Superfriends. I can certainly see the validity of such a statement in terms of who is being used and the costumes, but otherwise this story is far grittier, mature, and complex.
Again, the story in Justice is not anything groundbreaking, but the art and the interpretations of characters, especially the villains, make it an entertaining read.

If you grew up with the silver age comics of the 60's and 70's, they always posessed a certain magic, but they also always had obvious deficiencies. Many have tried to advance super hero comics to a more adult, more sophisticated level. Nudity, prophanity, and gritty realism have been added to try to raise the bar to a more adult level. "Justice" combines sophisticated storytelling with incredible artwork, and sets a new standard for superhero graphic novels.
