The whole Marvel vs DC concept is one that I talk with my friends about all the time. This book, however, makes me sick. First of all Superman wouldn't drop Juggernault with one punch - That's just stupid. Second, there is no way that Storm could stand a chance against Wonder Woman. Third, if Hulk and Superman fought, it would last for days, not minutes. The only battle that was even worth a damn was the fight between Captain Marvel and Thor. I think that Thor should fight Superman and beat the hell out of him. I know that a lot of you don't think that would happen, but don't forget that Thor is immortal and all of his powers are magic-based. One blow by Mjolnir to Superman's head would knock him out cold, if not kill him. One other battle that was okay was the Batman Captain America, but I believe that Captain America would ulimately win. He always finds a way and never gives up. Although I am a big Batman fan and believe he could beat Cap, I still think Cap would prevail. I know that the results were cast by the fans via voting, but that just makes it a popularity contest. Oh, and at the end when they all "merge", that was even more retarded then The Age of Apocalypse.

I orginally bought these comics when they first came out in a 5 part series. For those who thought the fights were un-even, you are so very wrong. Superman versus The Hulk for instance, the only way Superman won is because he literally had to knock out the Hulk, end of story, it was an even match. Superboy vs Spiderman, they were both clones people. Superboy was creted when Superman left for a while to find his home planet and was thought to be killed by Doomsday, and Spiderman was a clone of Peter Parker. Flash versus Quicksilver was all about experience, they were even with speed, but the Flash had more knowledge end of story. The fight that has been getting the worst reviews is Wolverine vs Lobo. Lobo is equal to Superman in strength right, well what about the Hulk, Wendigo, Thing and Juggernaut. Lobo is a chump compared to these, yet Wolverines first appearance in a comic book put him up against the Hulk. You wanna talk un-even that was un-even and Wolverine still came out on top. Plus if anyone you have read a Wolverine comic book, you would know odds do not matter to him, he has faced off thousands of HAND assasins at one time with only the help of Eleckta. TWO against THOUSANDS. He regenerates faster than Captain America, alot more experienced in fighting than Lobo, and whatever you throw at him, he either takes it or throws it back at you. Lobo thought he was easy pickins, and that is where he messed up. So unless you have read a Wolverine comic don't try to judge Lobo should have won because he as strong as Superman. Wolverine fought the Hulk long before Superman had to use his head has a battering ram to bring him down. Wonder Woman versus Storm, two Amazon type women fight, thats why they did it. Originally Wonder woman couldn't flu, but Storm can. Wonder Woman is not a strong as Superman, sorry. If that was true she would have been from another planet and called Supergirl. It was dunb to throw away the hammer though. Thor versus Captain Marvel was even up until the point the boy got cocky. Thor is not one to mess with especially when he is serious, which 99 percent of the time. I'm glad they made Batman vs Captain America a stalemate, because they are both AMERICAN ICONS. Batman because he a normal person, and Captain America for the simple fact that the original comic was made to raise the moral of the American public during a down and out time in history. Green Lantern versus Silver Surfer, both had the same amount of strength, but experience again won over because it was the new Green Lantern. Namor versus Aquaman was about as equal as you could get, it was all about chance when it came down to it. Jubilee versus Robin was a soap and so there wasn't much action there. This comic is a great read and I suggest it to any comic book reader.

The idea is great and the artwork cool, but overall I have to agree that this is much too small a format for such a sprawling concept. In order to cram everything in, what should be epic confrontations are mashed the smallest possible space.
That said, I must take issue with this absurd idea that no one likes Captain America. That's just silly; Cap has always been and remains a fan favorite. I find it funny to see him refrred to as dated when Batman is as clunky and old-timey as they come!

I'm a major Batman fan. Let me make that clear. I don't have a great deal of interest in any other DC character and almost none in Marvel (with the exception of The Punisher) so this match-up didn't have a great deal of emotional investment for me. However, I DO LOVE COMICS. Vertigo, Avatar, DC, Fleetway and the occasional Marvel.
So, let's make one thing clear. Batman BEAT Captain America. a) the Batarang took him out and b) Batman saved him so twice the humiliation. As he should. Because, sorry American readers (and yes, other nationalities DO read comics) , NOBODY LIKES CAPTAIN AMERICA. jingoistic characters created to help the war effort do not translate well to 2006, sorry. So all the European, Australian, Kiwi, African, South American and asian readers most probably wanted Batman to win.
Oh yeah, and Batman is an icon.
As are Superman and Wonder Woman. One of whom wins against a limp and one dimensional opponent, the other of whom loses to a limp and one dimensional character. But that's ok because the American-and I include Canada because....yes! It's part of North America!- readers voted that way. And that's fair enough.
My problem is the squandered potential and lack of respect for iconic characters. Why the Hell is Superman battling The Hulk? The Jolly Green Giant is obviously inferior. And Why is an Amazon battling a member of a team who has never been successful as a title-carrying character (aside from the lack of pedigree in Marvel's characters)? Shouldn't Wonder Woman be up against someone a bit more powerful considering she has a long and rich history in American popular culture? Shouldn't Superman have battled someone a little more worthy? Not to mention Spiderman. Clone or not this is THE flag carrying character of Marvel!
Secondly (remember I'm a Batman fan) there was a superb image of Batman squaring up to Venom in the first issue. Is there any marvel or DC fan who wouldn't love to see that match up? Why not pit The Joker against Spiderman instead of a pointless cameo? Putting the heroes up against the villains of each "Universe" would've been infinitely more entertaining and satisfying for fans of the books.
It all looks ok in an 80's kind way but it all feels like a missed opportunity. Yes, Marvel win but (maybe it's because I'm European) I just feel respect wasn't given to certain characters or the traditions of either publisher.
Oh, and once again, BATMAN KICKED CAPTAIN AMERICA'S BUTT!!!

Some really great battles in this book especially the Hulk VS Superman like God verusing the Golly Green Giant which came out with a rightful and logical win.
Little disappointed with the Superboy vs Spiderman one though.
