Episode:  The pilot
Writers :
Alfred Gough & Miles Millar
Director: David Nutter
Aired: 10/16/01
Memorable Quote:
Clark Kent on normalcy

The Pilot begins in October 1989, in Smallville, Kansas.  Jonathan and Martha Kent are in Smallville at the local flower shop. Martha sees little Lana Lang, which reminds her of her desire to have a child.  In just a few short minutes Martha will get her wish, but along with her bundle of joy from outer space will come a very destructive shower of meteors that will claim the lives of Lana Lang's parents and cause Lex Luthor to lose his hair. Just before the meteors crash, Lex sees a teenager tied up in a cornfield like a scarecrow; this kid comes back for revenge in the future.

Next we see Clark Kent in the present reading articles on the internet. One of which is about the Fastest Man Alive. ( If your curious as to what the article said click here.)

Clark is off to school where Pete Ross, Chloe Sullivan, Lana Lang, and Whitney Fordman are introduced to the series.

Next Lex Luthor is driving his Porsche when he gets a call on his cell phone. He looks away from the road and his car runs into a roll of barbed wire accidentally dropped by a passing truck. Lex runs off a bridge and at the same time runs over Clark causing both of them to go over the side.

Clark saves Lex's life which marks the beginning of a friendship that can only be doomed to failure in the years to follow.

Jeremy Creek returns to take revenge on the jocks who tied him up like a scarecrow in 1989. In the meantime, Clark's father, Jonathan, reveals to him the truth behind Clark's alien origins, and Clark discovers Chloe's wall of weird detailing all the strange events that have occurred in Smallville since the meteor shower.

Thanks to Lana's Kryptonite necklace she keeps as a reminder of her parents, Whitney is able to make Clark  this year's annual scarecrow. Lex rescues Clark and Clark goes to the high school dance to save his friends from Jeremy Creek. After a short battle between Clark's Kryptonian strength and Jeremy's weird electrical powers, Clark is victorious. On the way he home he gets a little revenge for himself on Whitney's truck.

The episode ends with Clark imagining a slow dance with Lana, and then sadly watching her go into her home for the night.  Everything by Life house plays in the background.
