Ryan discovers the space ship

Ryan's evil step dad

Stray begins with a gifted kid that can read minds. The kid, Ryan,  is being forced to lead a life of crime by his step parents, using his powers to learn combinations for safes. After witnessing the murder of a shop keeper  by his dad, Ryan runs away. He is accidentally hit by Martha Kent with her car. After taking him into the hospital, the Kents take him into their home temporarily.

Clark Kent quickly befriends Ryan. Ryan finds Clark is the only one whom he can't seem to read. Ryan's parents decide to kidnap Lex Luthor while planning to regain Ryan. Meanwhile Ryan reads Martha's mind and finds Clark's spaceship in the cellar.

Ryan's step mom kidnaps him by posing as a child service representative while Clark was gone. Meanwhile Ryan's step dad poses as Lex Luthor's driver and kidnaps Lex at gunpoint. Clark recognizes Lex's driver as being Ryan's step dad after Chloe digs up some jail pictures of him.

Clark heads off at super speed to catch up to Lex Luthor's limo and finds him on the side of the road alive. Up the road Ryan's step dad shoots his wife, and Ryan runs into a bowling alley. Clark shows up to save the day and has to throw a bowling ball through a wall and almost through Ryan's step dad to stop him from gunning Ryan down with his shotgun.

To the disappointment of Clark, Ryan has to leave the Kents.  The Superman song from the group Five for Fighting plays in the background. Ryan pledges to keep Clark's secret and warns Clark of the darkness that Lex keeps hidden as he leaves Smallville.
