This episode features Greg Arkin, a strange boy obsessed with bugs...and Lana Lang. The problem starts after Greg is attacked by his bugs while driving. He takes on the physical attributes of his bugs like increased strength and putting humans into cocoons.

Greg's obsession with Lana leads him to attack Whitney in his truck. After Whitney wrecks his truck, the Kents come by just in time for Clark to save Whitney from his exploding truck.

Lex Luthor pays a visit to Lana to put in a good word for Clark, and to clue Lana in to what Whitney had done to Clark in the pilot episode. He made Clark the annual scarecrow.

Clark and Jonathan are attacked by Greg in the barn, but Greg takes off while Clark save his dad from a deadly fall.  Later Clark, Chloe, and Pete discover Greg's mom had been  murdered in her own home by Greg.

The episode ends with Clark fighting to save Lana from Greg. Lana is placed into a human sized cocoon.  Greg runs into an old warehouse filled with the meteor rocks (kryptonite). Clark manages to defeat Greg who meets with an untimely death. He accidentally gets squished...like a bug. Unfortunately for Clark he doesn't make it back in time to rescue Lana from the cocoon, but Whitney does.

Clark decides to give the kryptonite necklace back to Lana. It had been recovered by Lex after Whitney without his knowledge used it to beat up Clark.  Clark puts it on her doorstep and runs away at super speed. Even though he knows he will cause him a major problem in getting closer to Lana, he realizes how important the necklace is to her.
